Nonverbal communication at school

In classroom nonverbal communication is between student and teacher or it's between students to student. Body movement in class can reflect the behaviour of teacher as well as student like whether the teacher is angry or not or student is attentive in class or not and many other things.




Following are the some things which can help you to understand nonverbal communication:
  • It is reported that almost 75% of classroom management conduct is nonverbal.
  • Body movement by hands, legs or eyes are very common in class. Example - eyebrow have 23 different movements, all movements have their own different meaning.
  • State of student can be judge by their body postures. It reflects self-confidence, energy, fatigue, conciseness in class etc.
  • Like all people facial expressions are used between instructor and teacher to form a good impression.
  • Distance is also a factor in non verbal communication as distance between between friends are much more less than distance between a teacher and a student.
  • Physical environment of classroom is figure out by the objects in it. These object has a key impact in creating a positive or negative environment in class.
  • Clothing in classroom can reflect the caste, religion, background, sex, nationality , age and many other factors.
  • In class room environment, for teachers time is consider as nonverbal communication. Example - if a student regularly comes late in class it means he is not punctual or lazy in time management.
